Fostering an animal
Merlin Animal Rescue relies on a network of dedicated foster carers to look after animals whilst permanent homes are being found. This allows abandoned and neglected animals to recover and recuperate in a home environment with patient, caring owners and prepares them for their new homes.
We are always looking for experienced pet owners who would be interested in fostering dogs and other animals. All dogs undergo vaccination and castration / speying programmes when they are registered with Merlin, and we cover costs of this, any ongoing veterinary treatment as well as food / feed costs.
The animals that come to us are often nervous and therefore we look for foster carers that are at home for most of the day, working for no more than 4hrs a day in normal circumstances. We carefully vet animals to ensure that dogs can be fostered by families with children and pets. Obviously it is important that you have a fenced garden, and patience is key!
This can be an extremely rewarding role for an animal lover. If you would like to find out more about being a foster carer please don’t hesitate to contact us .
